Subcontractors

If you engage other people or businesses to do project work for your business then these will be tax allowable expenses.

You should ask them for an invoice before you pay them.

You must also be careful that you aren’t veering into the territory of employment rather than self- employment – typically as long as you are only engaging them for a specific project on a short term basis you should be ok, but if you end up working with the same sub-contractor regularly make sure you’re ok from an employment status perspective (have a read of the IR35 section of this guide which will give you a steer as to the typical indicators of employment).
